Import Manager

This long established food importer, based Luton, Bedfordshire, is looking for an experienced and senior import applicant to manage all their worldwide imports.  Mainly seafreight imports, the ideal applicant would have extensive import seafreight knowledge.

REPORTING TO Procurement Director

MAIN OBJECTIVES: To be the expert/lead on import and shipping within the Group. Commitment to the objectives, direction and culture of the Group.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Please note this is not an exhaustive list of duties but represents the main requirements of the role.

Main duties should be:

-HMRC Qualification or Recognised as an HMRC competent person;

-Assisting the Procurement Director with shipping negotiations and price analysis;

-Competent in CHIEF, CNS, Datafreight, DEFRA – PEACH, TRACE NT, Excel;

-Maintaining AEOF status;

-Reconciliation and daily running of Duty Deferment Account and knowledge FAS payment system;

-Preparation of shipping documents for customs clearance, submission of entries and release/Pins from shipping lines;

-Maintain cost check database for all suppliers, invoice checking and resolution;

-Maintaining Weighing Authorisation;

-Managing the daily running of the shipping contracts including origin and destination terms and conditions, plus direct shipping to Ireland, release, and invoice checking;

-Organic certification for imports, Fairtrade and Rain Forest Alliance, knowledge of processes including audits and mass balance

-Among others;



-Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the same or a similar role.

-In-depth experience of import and shipping legislation and processes.

-Experience of working in fresh food manufacturing (desirable).

-Confident in communicating effectively with colleagues, customers, agencies and external parties to identify needs and create and or evaluate alternative solutions and strategies where appropriate.

-Ability to manage complex and multiple tasks within required timescales.

-Champion change and effectively manage the implementation of new processes.

-Excellent IT skills including Excel and Word

-Numerate, literate and be able to confidently communicate in English.

WORKING PATTERN: Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm (one hour lunchbreak) plus additional hours as required to fulfil the role to a satisfactory standard.

Salary will be in the region of £34000 to £38000 aae.
