Industries are different so you should bear the following points in mind when writing your CV for a Freight Forwarding, Logistics, Shipping or Courier job.
- Before you begin writing anything, put yourself in the shoes of the employer and write down the description of the person they are looking for then use this as a blueprint for your CV.
- List your recent employment first and provide detail about your role and achievements. The further you go back, the less detail we need.
- When listing your jobs you need to go back at least 5 years as, for the positions we recruit for, we need to go back at least that far to get references. Be as accurate with dates as possible: in other words, we want to see the month and year you started and ended jobs and not just the year.
- List details of any Technical Systems you can use such as NES. Also make sure you mention any software products you can use and your level of proficiency with them.
- Make sure your CV is easy to read and presented professionally and clearly.
- Show how you are the ideal candidate for the job by indicating that you have the skills, experience, behaviour and attitude.
- In our opinion do not include a section called Profile or Overview. The information you include about your academic and professional qualifications and work experience, particularly your current or most recent job, is far more important. CV writing is like advertising so how you present the information and the order in which you present it are important.
- You should aim for 2 to 3 sheets of A4, more if you are applying for an executive position.
- Think carefully about the words you use.
