Assistant Transport Manager

This large multi-national Freight Forwarder based Heathrow, is looking for an experience Transport applicant for an important role within their transport division.

  • Previous managerial/ supervisory experience within a Transport department ideally gained in a Freight Forwarding Company
  • Knowledge of the Freight forwarding industry - air, sea and road freight in UK & Europe.
  • Ideally possess an International CPC qualification
  • An effective communicator and able to build good working relationships with other sites, Senior and Departmental Management, customers and within the Transport Department.
  • Good network of customers and 3rd party Transport Suppliers
  • Confidence to develop new business from existing customers and new prospects in partnership with Sales Team to increase monthly revenue.
  • Previous experience of writing and reviewing Transport policies, procedures and processes including ISO guidelines.
  • Ideally possess a valid Aviation Security Certificate (AVSEC)
  • Knowledge of Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Regulations valid Cert advantage
  • Experience of Good Distribution Practices (GDP) and temperature control vehicles.
  • PC literate, AS400, Microsoft Windows Word, Excel and have working knowledge of Transport Management Systems such as Roadrunner.

Job Tasks

  • To closely assist, support and liaise with the Transport Manager in all aspects of Transport operations including;
  • Deputise in the absence of the Manager.
  • Assist in completing management reports, reviews, budget control accounts.
  • Develop and negotiate agreements with 3rd party haulers.
  • Identify areas for change or improvement in consultation with the Transport Manager
  • Play an integral part in set up and roll out of the new TMS and promote benefits to customers and other Depots/Branches.
  • Maintain effective and regular communication channels with Senior and Departmental Managers across all sites and within the Transport Department.
  • Ensure Aviation Security compliancy for all Transport staff and Drivers
  • Assist in the Continuous Review and ongoing training of all Transport staff
  • In conjunction with Transport Manager, assist with all aspects of Health & Safety and Compliance within the Transport department.
  • Create and review existing Transport policies, procedures and processes whilst adhering to ISO compliance guidelines.
  • Future plans to include, assisting with conducting CPC reviews of other sites as and when required.

Salary will be between £35000 to £40000 plus O.T. and pension and 25 days holiday.
